REAL ESTATE CONTINUES TO BE A SUCCESSFUL AND

PROFITABLE INVESTMENT IN THE OKANAGAN VALLEY

 

Sometimes it’s hard to be optimistic when you’re being bombarded with negative press about rising interest rates, depressed housing markets, and sagging economies. There are those that believe real estate is a bad investment and/or that the “bubble” is about to pop.  For those of us however that have real estate as part of our financial portfolio we’ve seen rising prices and rising rents bolster our investment substantially.  Nothing on the horizon suggests that there will be any sort of "crash" in prices but rather a balancing of our market which will allow it to be sustainable for many years to come.

  • Kelowna has tended to be insulated from the rest of the province due to our tremendous popularity.
  • We’ve seen local buyers competing for product with out of province/country buyers.  This helps keep our market sustainable.
  • We’ve seen a steady increase in multi-family dwellings to accommodate those finding it difficult to enter the marketplace. 
  • Rents have also increased making revenue producing real estate an ever popular option for some buyers.
  • We’ve seen flexibility on suites in single family homes and the option for that income to assist in the mortgage qualifying process as a great option for those trying to get into the housing market.
  • Interest rates are low and our local economy is strong.
  • More product for buyers to choose from.
  • Interest in the 2010 Olympics is ramping up attention on our province.


In short, with international attention, affordability compared to world-wide prices, and the continued influx of people to our Valley there are a lot of things pointing towards a healthy and sustainable real estate market continuing for some time.
